1. Pink Hostel, New York

Pink Hostel is an oasis of peace located on the north area of Central Park. This is the only “female” hostel in the Big Apple and the atmosphere is really nice and fun.

It’s fully equipped: there are washing and drying machines, the front-desk is open 24 hours and they have an ultramodern security system. You also have access to a huge kitchen, a living room with a high definition TV (perfect for meeting other female travelers) and the staff is always willing to help and offer good travel tips.

2. St. Chrisopher’s Inn – Orient Expresso, London

Located right over a café and close to London Bridge and the Borough Market, Orient Expresso is a place reserved for women. This “sanctuary” for female travelers offers private rooms and shared rooms for up to 8 women, all with small details carefully placed so the guests will feel as comfortable as posible.

All rooms have space for luggage, and individual lamp, a large mirror and an ironing table. The bathrooms have a spa-feel, equipped with towels, scented soap, body milk and shampoo. Thanks to the pillows and the brand new mattresses you’ll sleep like a princess.

3. Base St. Kilda, Melbourne

This chic hostel in Melbourne is paradise for the girls that want to give themselves a treat during their trip. The hostel offers the possibility of staying in a reserved “sanctuary” only for women: shampoo, body lotion, hair dryers and hair irons are available, and free! Every afternoon from 18:00 to 19:00 they serve free champagne and on weekends they serve tea and coffee in bed, perfect to get up in the morning in a good mood.

Even though you decide to stay in one of the regular rooms at the Base St. Kilda, you can enjoy “Ladies Night” with free champagne from 21:00 to 23:00 and you’ll have access to the gym.

4. Cairns Girls Hostel, Cairns

This warm hostel is unique in Australia. The directors are a nice couple who will help you organize your excursions to the Great Barrier Reef, the tropical woods or even to go scuba diving.

Located in a safe and calm area, the Cairns Girls Hostel is close to the shopping neighborhoods and next to a beautiful lagoon. In this girls-only hostel you’ll feel right at home because in the evenings you can watch DVDs with other female travelers and have dinner together in the dining room.

5. Generator Hostel London, Londres

The Generator Hostel London is perfectly located in the center of London and you won’t have to go anywhere to enjoy the party since the Generator Bar is open until 02:00 in the morning.

The female travelers can stay in Pink Dorms (shared rooms only for girls) or in private rooms. You’ll have access to a personal locker, a living room, a game room, restaurant, night club, laudromat and many other services. You can go sightseeing or partying with people from all around the world.

6. Plus Prague Hostel, Prague

With an indoor pool and a sauna, the Plus Prague Hostel is one of the best hostels for women in the city. The girls-only shared rooms include soft towels and hair dryers and are a perfect refuge to spend a nice cozy night.

Every room has a private bathroom and mirrors and you’ll get a gift bag when you arrive. It’s very well located, only a few underground stations away from the center of town. The hostel has an economical restaurant and a bar to mingle with the other guests.

7. Wombats City Hostel, Viena

The Wombats City Hostel is one of the most beautiful places to stay in the Austrian capital. Every single room and even the bar has been designed with a funky touch. The hostel has a social calendar full of events, perfect to enjoy a good atmosphere and have a good time.

The rooms are clean and spacious, they have a lot of light and they have their own private bathroom. The Pink Wing zone is reserved for the girls only. Plus, the location of the hostel is perfect for women since it’s really close to one of the longest shopping avenues in Viena.

8. Lisbon Old Town Hostel, Lisbon

In this colorful and luminous hostel you’ll find two kitchens and four living rooms where you can spend time with other guests and, if you prefer, you can stay in shared rooms only for women.

The Lisbon Old Town Hostel, in a building from the XVIII century which has been restored, is very well located. Nearby you’lll find the main tourist attractions. Plus, every morning you can enjoy a free breakfast. You also have internet access.

9. Lub D Bangkok, Bangkok

This hostel in Bangkok is perfect for people traveling alone. You can choose between a private room and a girls-only shared room, equipped with a design bathroom exclusive for female travelers.

All the rooms at the Lub D Bangkok are new and are furnished with a futuristic style. They have a security system with electronic keys and personal lockers. Located in a safe and clean area, the hostel is the perfect place to relax since it has its own bar and a cinema.

10. Smart City Hostels, Edinburgh

This hostel is ideal for female travelers on a tight budget. It offers chic rooms right in the center of Edinburgh. The rooms are fully equipped with individual lockers, camera systems for video surveillance, luggage check-in and spaces for bicycles. If for some reason you need medical attention, there is a doctor and a dentist ready to assist you 24 hrs. a day, 7 days a week; we hope that’s not the case, but it would just take a phone call.

The plan has been presented to City Hall in Madrid and it will consist on reducing 70% of the space that the floats occupy in Chueca, cutting back 24% on hours of the programme and reducing sound power by 40% or 50%. It would have been ideal if they would have set some tangible standards about their idea of increasing participants’ awareness for better co-existance with the neighbors and avoiding littering on the streets, for example, or measures that would make the participants more respectful with the environment, but I guess it’s about taking things step by step.

Plaza de España is the new main setting. The performances will be carried out on July 2nd and 3rd. Plaza de Vázquez de Mella in Chueca will still be a fundamental place for the welcoming of all those who want to join the celebration. This Saturday is the day of the second celebration of Southern Pride. Today I’ve been able to delight in situ with the huge Pride flag fluttering at the heights of the Alamillo bridge. You can see it miles away. It will be the first thing that gays and lesbians that come from Extremadura will see as they enter the city, announcing the celebration.

This Saturday the party starts at Plaza Nueva, at 18:30. We expect some news abut last year. A longer route has been planned, towards the Explanada del Real of the Feria de Abril. We’ll be touring the entire Avenida República Argentina. Dozens of floats will join the march at Puerta Jerez, to accompany the delegation with music until the end. I suppose that, as it was last year, many families will come up to the delegation to gossip and say hello to the participants. My criticism is directed to the involvement of political parties and other political associations. We’re not propaganda for anyone. We’re free, they should know that by now… I accept that we’ve been subsidized for this celebration, but no one should think that they’ve bought my vote because of that.

Once the parade comes to an end we’ll enjoy the performances of renowned transvestites and then later with Soraya at the Explanada de la Feria. I’m sure the concert will be great, but I think last year’s after party is going to be hard to beat. I’m unconditional, I admit it. Fangoria delighted me among all the fags that came from all over Spain, and let’s not forget the previous concert by Nancys Rubias. Although I predict that with last year’s experience we’ll see improvements on behalf of the organization and that Soraya will be in mint condition for this important event, the proudest celebration in the South.

Gay Pride Madrid 2010

The Gay Pride celebration in Madrid is the greatest celebration in Spanish territory and attracts thousands of visitors every year. It consists of a great parade with floats, music, dance and fun and will be celebrated on Saturday, July 3rd at 18:00 for the State Manifestation of Pride. It’s important to remember that this manifestation has made a clear and positive contribution to the legal equality that exists today in Spain.

The motto this year is “For Trans Equality” and, despite that the manifestation is only on July 3rd, the Gay Pride holiday is celebrated from June 25th to July 4th. If you’re thinking of going, maybe you’ll be interested in our travel guides and maybe a prior post.

Gay Pride Barcelona 2010

This holiday is celebrated from June 18th until the 28th although the great parade is on Sunday June 27th at 18:00. And if you have enough time, don’t miss Sitges, 20 minutes away by car, they also have a good gay parade.

San Francisco Gay Pride 2010

Gay Pride in San Francisco is one of the most famous celebrations in the world and this year is their 40th Anniversary. It is celebrated in the city’s Civic Center with over 200 people involved in the parade, 300 exhibitors and 19 stages, thus becoming the greatest LGBT event of the US of A.

London Gay Pride 2010

We’ve talked about London here to the detail. Their gay festival is one of the biggest in Europe. Gay Pride will be celebrated this year on July 3rd with a great parade and with artists and performances distributed on the main stage, the Leicester Square stage and the stage for women. Altogether, it’s an endless event of music, entertainment and fun in one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the planet. Their motto this year is “Paint the Town Ruby Red”.

Amsterdam Gay Pride 2010

The city will offer outdoor celebrations, parties in different clubs and the famous Canal Parade, where the main feature is that instead of having floats on the main avenue, the parade is carried out on boats throughout the canal. There are different dates: Canal Parade – 7August 7th; Gay Pride – August 5th until the 8th.

On June 25th the inauguration of the LGBTI Culture Festival, Diversa 2010 will take place.
