Gay Pride Madrid 2010

The Gay Pride Celebration in Madrid is one of the best on the planet. This year we’ve prepared the full dossier of activities and some curiosities if you’ve never been to Pride in Madrid (by the way, what are you waiting for?) Here’s the first: The organizers estimate that it means an economic stimulus of 100 millon euros for the city. This year, Pride is betting on a more sustainable model and on causing minimal impact on Chueca, the most popular gay neigborhood in the city. A million and a half people are expected in Madrid between June 20th and July 4th.
The plan has been presented to City Hall in Madrid and it will consist on reducing 70% of the space that the floats occupy in Chueca, cutting back 24% on hours of the programme and reducing sound power by 40% or 50%. It would have been ideal if they would have set some tangible standards about their idea of increasing participants’ awareness for better co-existance with the neighbors and avoiding littering on the streets, for example, or measures that would make the participants more respectful with the environment, but I guess it’s about taking things step by step.
Plaza de España is the new main setting. The performances will be carried out on July 2nd and 3rd. Plaza de Vázquez de Mella in Chueca will still be a fundamental place for the welcoming of all those who want to join the celebration. And the final spike of the party, Kylie Minogue has signed up to close Gay Pride Madrid 2010. If you’re thinking of going don’t miss our city guide where you’ll find everything. Just so you do’t forget.
